New Mexico’s Indian Family Protection Act, NMSA 32A-28-1 to 32A-28-42, strengthens and expands protections for Native American children and families in the child welfare system. IFPA codifies and expands on the Indian Child Welfare Act. District Court judges are required to attend IFPA training no less than every 15 months.

1. Judges will understand the history and significance of the Indian Family Protection Act.
2. Judges will gain insight into roles of case parties for IFPA-involved cases.
