SUMMARY:ADA Modifications of Policies\, Practices\, and Procedures to Ensure Access to Justice with Julie Ballinger
DESCRIPTION:Court rules\, policies\, or practices may create access-to-justice barriers for people with disabilities. Join us to explore ADA requirements for making reasonable modifications to policies\, practices\, and procedures—commonly referred to as accommodations. These modifications ensure equal access to the justice process for people with disabilities. Even when a requested modification would fundamentally alter court operations\, courts must still explore alternative ways to ensure access—an issue this training will address. This training will include best practices regarding the interactive process\, leading to disability-related barrier removal. \nJulie Ballinger\, M.A.\, is a nationally recognized leader with 38 years advancing Disability Rights. She has delivered national impact through leadership and innovation across diverse sectors. Julie directed a Center for Independent Living (CIL)\, a nonprofit led by people with disabilities providing community services\, then became a consultant with the Southwest ADA Center (SWADAC) while employed with the University of Arkansas-providing Technical Assistance to CILs in two federal regions. For 27 years\, she has continued with SWADAC\, specializing in ADA training and TA on employment\, government\, and business/nonprofit accessibility. Over the past 9 years\, she has focused on court and correctional systems\, authoring comprehensive\, nationally distributed ADA guides tailored to each sector. \n** To request an ADA Accommodation to attend this presentation\, please email ADA@nmcourts.xyz as soon as possible ** \nZOOM REGISTRATION REQUIRED:\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/9uOsIwImQ-e2C61gyCz9lw

SUMMARY:ADA Effective Communication: Getting It Right in Court Settings with Julie Ballinger
DESCRIPTION:Under the ADA\, effective communication means that information must be as clear and understandable for people with disabilities as it is for those without. The standard for effectiveness is mutual understanding between the court and the individual.
